Great! Be sure to follow John's advice and call your local provider. On-line opt out didn't work so well for me yet..

Hi Karen,

Excellent topic. It kills me to get phone books. They're a tremendous waste for folks like members in my family. We operate a paperless business, read the New York Times online, and have most of our vendors send us invoices in PDF form via email. Unsubscribing from the various phone book mail lists will be another thing we will be eager to do so we can do our little part for the environment.

Thanks,
Frank

I unsubscribed from my local phone book and never looked back. Another option I found is to call your phone book provider and ask them to remove your address (home and office) from the printed book mailing list. Here are the phone numbers I found:

Ameritech: 1-800-346-4377
Bell Atlantic / Verizon: 1-800-346-9639
Bell South: 1-800-682-4000
GTE: 1-800-346-9639
MCI: 1-800-444-3333
Pac Bell: 1-800-848-8000
SWBell: 1-800-792-2665
