What rights does the Census Bureau have?

Have you completed the Census yet? What were you asked? What do you think about this video? Don’t they only ask 10 questions this year? What has been your experience?

Thank you, Martin, for this.

  1. Mimi:I think he is ridiculously alarmist and exaggerates the role of the Constitution in the workings of every day government. The beauty of our Constitution is that it was never designed to spell out in mind-numbing detail how every aspect of every arm of the government should operate.

Karen:do you think we should have to give out all this info for a census that is to count how many of us there are?

Mimi: You know, altho he is a little bombastic, he does have a point. I don’t recall that it has ever bothered me in the past to fill out these census forms. I believe that funding for certain programs in various parts of the country or in certain congressional districts can depend on some of these kinds of information. Some money is earmarked for areas considered urban blight areas, others for business districts. I think census information helps with urban and rural planning districts. And maybe some of this information tracks the effectiveness of programs that were already funded.. . .I don’t FEAR this collection, I guess that’s the difference. I myself am suspicious of all the fear-mongering in the media and elsewhere (videos like this). . .My worry? Make people fearful and they will be more likely to believe anything, and to seek a savior. . .

  2. Well, I think the country has finally become aware of, and fed up with, of our lack of privacy. Big brother continues to extend its view.

And, the census was set up to count us. The information now, I “fear”.. is being used to find out where and how they can collect more taxes, not assist the public needs. Federal aid to cities is cut, almost entirely. They’re broke.

We will, of course, ultimately pay for all the money that has been so quickly printed. I would love to think of the government as some loving, protective overseer, but it is becoming less and less that. We are being drained for so much unnecessary spending.

The government has asked too much from us and it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets (hopefully) better. New public attitude: stop asking from us, even for information.

  3. I don’t know where this guy gets his information. There were two young female census takers that came by my house in AZ Friday. They were very courteous and dropped off the form for me to fill out which I did and mailed that day. The only questions they asked me was to make sure this was the correct address and that there were no other buildings on… See More the property where others lived. It took me 5 minutes to fill out the census form. Maybe I got the short form if there is more than one form. They asked the names of the people living in the house, their birthdays, if we lived in more than one place, which we do, and our nationality. Pretty simple and information that is readily available.

  4. Fantastic! Good to know. Thanks for this. Anxious to hear others’ experiences.
